Internet Q & A
- How much faster is your service than my dial-up connection?
- Typically, most residents using a dial-up connection are connected at somewhere between 19-56K. Although download speeds are affected by the speed of the server and by the amount of traffic on the Internet at any given time, our High-Speed Internet service can provide you with download speeds up to 10MB — that’s as much as 200 times faster than dial-up.
- What about my e-mail address?
- You can have up to five e-mail addresses. Additional e-mail addresses can be purchased for only $3.00 per month each. The e-mail address on our Internet service will be JohnDoe@comsouth.net (if that choice is not already in use). Programs such as Outlook Express and Outlook will allow you to send and receive your e-mail using the POP3 and SMTPprotocols. Your mailbox size is 20MB, which allows you to send and receive up to 20MB of files.
- What is a Dynamic IP?
- IP stands for "Internet Protocol." An IP address enables a computer to be identified on the Internet while the user is on-line. A dynamic IP address (included with our Internet packages) is one that is temporarily assigned to a user from a pool of IP addresses from a centrally administered server. It means that you have a different IP address each time you log onto the Internet.
- What is a Static IP?
- This is an Internet Protocol address that remains the same every time a user logs onto the Internet. Because it is a “fixed” address, it is easier for other Internet users to locate and connect to the hosting computer. There is a $15 per month fee for static IP addresses.
