The History of ComSouth

ComSouth began service in 1913 as Hawkinsville Telephone Company. Our founder, W.A. Jennings, wanted to make the newly evolving telephone technology of the day available to rural markets in south central Georgia. He began by building a telecom network that served Pulaski County and its county seat, Hawkinsville. Now ComSouth serves the cities of Perry, Cochran, Unadilla, Pinehurst, and Marshallville, as well as parts of Houston, Dodge, Dooly, Bleckley, Peach, and Macon Counties.

The young company quickly established a reputation as a forward-looking organization dedicated to supporting the beautiful community on the banks of the Ocmulgee River.

Since that early beginning, the Jennings family has continued to follow Mr. Jennings’s early vision. His son, W. Mansfield Jennings Sr., served as ComSouth’s CEO for several decades until the 1970’s when his son, W. Mansfield Jennings, Jr. took over. As President and CEO, Mansfield Jennings, Jr. led the evolution of Hawkinsville Telephone Company to become ComSouth, reflecting the company’s wider service area and broader service offerings, including cable TV, Internet access, and wireless. Today, he chairs the board.
